The International Committee of the Red Cross, working with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the UN, began delivering food and other supplies to the besieged towns of Madaya, west of Damascus, and Foua and Kefraya, in Idlib, on January 11. Activists in Madaya have been reporting on the effects of food shortages. Medecins San Fronteires/Doctors Without Borders said that five people died of starvation there on Sunday, January 10.
