A Connecticut film festival has awarded entertainer and social activist Harry Belafonte for his humanitarian efforts. The social activist received an Oscar in 2014 for his fight against injustice.
The Greenwich Time reports the Greenwich International Film Festival honored Belafonte with its first Changemaker Honoree award at a gala Saturday night. Belafonte says he found the occasion thrilling.
Mia Farrow was also an honoree, but could not attend the gala because of a scheduling conflict.
Festival organizers partnered with UNICEF and showed short films from the organization’s OneMinutesJr. Program— a project in which children from around the world make short films about their lives and circumstances.
Festival co-founder Wendy Stapleton Reyes says both entertainers have used their platforms to make the world a better place.
