  • I want to start a charity in New York. Can I set up a website and solicit online donations legally if the charity is neither registered nor incorporated. If, hypothetically, I get $20,000 in donations would I be able to (legally) keep $2,000 for myself (for my efforts) and have 18,000 go directly to the cause that I'm fund raising for?

  • @SemperFiBluAngles, you read off the Brain Dump – which consists of as many organization names as you and your inner circle would like to consider. I would keep the Focus Group to around 4-5, but again it's all about how much work you want to do – more people in the process means more time, effort, and complication.

Are there any website to check for name availability for a non profit organization for free?
I am having a hard time looking for answers.
I did find a website where I have to fill out a form for a name availability. I don't know if its free or how long it would take for me to find out whether the name is taken. Not much info is given to me. below is the website .sos.ca.gov/business/be/name-availability.htm#prepaid
    Please help!
