The breakthrough in renewable energy – (VPRO documentary – 2016)

It’s not in the papers but a silent revolution is moving across the world. Renewable energy is becoming cheaper than from fossil fuels. It means that progressively the choice for wind and solar energy is no longer an ethical one but an economic one. And this will speed up the transfer to renewable energy.

In countries like Brazil, Australia, Chile and parts of the United States people consider renewable energy because of financial reasons. The price of solar and wind energy will continue to drop and in more countries renewable energy will occur.

A surprising newcomer on the market is Morocco, where the government expects that in 2020 more than 40 percent of the energy could come from solar energy.

  • Let's make history by making global warming history!  Who's with me?  Donald Trump must not be allowed to destroy the planet!  I repeat mustn't!

  • lol this is a joke, world leaders…. if these are the world decision leaders, they are missing the mark and are not that intelligent, they are still trying to solve the problem using money, wake up, first end and abolish the money system, now free green energy is free to make for the entire planet, for all to use for free forever…. you cannot make a buck on free,,, its free, world human unity makes everything free, the only payment is the thanks you receive and you can use the hawaiian word Mahalo,,,, end of problem of making green energy and your welcome….

  • nothing is a business anymore no more money, price, cost, leverage corruption etc until we remove the use of money we'll never be free

  • 43:44 – the combination of music, scenery and hopeful words was so mesmerizingly beautiful that I cried. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ) ♫・*:.。. .。.:*・

  • Once the subsidies are gone the real race will decided. They tax gas, not subsidize it, but once the tax solar it will win – whatever brings in the best tax net gain will always win. Ask any corporation and country (national corporation).

  • Population is the problem ! I Believe that , Slowly, we are all killing ourselves.
    A Quote From Stephen Hawkings

"One way or another, the life on Earth will likely become uninhabitable for mankind in the future. We need to start seriously thinking about how we will free ourselves from the constraints of this dying planet. "

  • Tesla already knew how to make 100{2926adbe9d5efe15cdd71803f3adbd0753091c5491a4687b622765a0a93bb12e} Renewable energy and wanted to make it free to the public by harnessing the earths natural electricity but Edison regected it as he could not make a profit so they decided to use fossil fuel so it could be regulated andd sold

  • Africa has a leadership backlog. Sun in Africa never stops and we are far behind the access of cheap electricity.

  • why don't we just build a giant solar panel around the sun and connect a big wire from it directly to the earth. we can drain the core of the planet and fill it with a big lithium battery, until the whole motherfucker glows and you can see it from the other side of the galaxy!

  • offshore wind far away you can't see it. but also put in where low or shallow impassable shipping routes maybe!

  • The fact that we still use coal and oil PROVES religious people are mentally inferior. They are the majority of the planet and the planet is failing. This is not a coincidence.

  • it will be better to bring prices of these equipment's low that any body can afford it. changes through these idea will be effective if every citizen have power of purchasing these equipment's for their homes.

  • Solar is becoming cheaper but I have another point what happens if fossil fuel price will also fall by 50 {2926adbe9d5efe15cdd71803f3adbd0753091c5491a4687b622765a0a93bb12e}?

  • Yes- but also green the deserts, using solar wells to have pumped up Hydro with floating solar and add Coal ( based fertilisers) to the depleted soil to recreate the lost carbon sponge. This way through chain of oasis based villages we can restore the natural Hydro-logical Cycle, recreate paradise, where the hell of wars ware roaming before and turn the Flood of Refugees as well (as To Be a BIT more Human) – IT pays even better . – That way everybody can be "Hairo" (resident).

  • CO2 is NOT a pollutant…..
It greens the hot and cold wastelands while being a very weak greenhouse gas…weak..
CO2 is up and crop yields are up because of the higher CO2.
If CO2 ppm doubles in the atmosphere the temp will go up no more 0.6C …..not the overly-promised Global Meltdown.

  • Interesting.
If you dont have too much land would a tower of solar panels work?
So far they all seem to be just one on the ground but you could always stack them higher, or could you?
Could you use something like a big reflective vertical mirror to focus the sunlight? The thing that really needs more research is storage batteries.

  • Sure, solar in the desert close to the equator. So fill up a ship with that 6 cent solar electricity and send it to Russia and Canada. Oh right, that doesn't work. How about by power lines. Not that either. Let's all move down to the desert. Controlling climate change is a joke.
